- Incorporated in 1870, Mashpee was originaly a Native American village.
- Mashpee retains a significant population of Wampanoag Indians to this day.
- The Mashpee Indian Museum is a good place to learn more about the Indian history and culture.
- Original industries of farming and fishing/whaling started to move towards tourism in the early 1900's and has escalated to this day.
