What
is Webmail?
Webmail is a server-based email system that allows you to access your email
account from the World Wide Web. You can send and receive email messages
from almost any computer that is connected to the Internet.
Note: You can send and receive email messages from Webmail as well as from your POP3 email client. Some of the more popular email client applications include Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, Eudora, Netscape Mail, and Pegasus. Each email client application contains its own built-in help file that will guide you through the process of setting it up to read mail on a remote server. If you need specific information during setup such as the names of your incoming and outgoing mail servers, contact your Webmail Administrator.
Because Webmail is based on the hypertext mark-up language (HTML), you can use any major Internet browser to access your email messages. Additionally, your email is stored on your domain’s server; therefore, you can save email and attachments on the server instead of downloading them to your computer.
What
is the difference between my domain POP3 email account and my Webmail
account?
Webmail provides another way to access your existing domain email account
(you@your_domain). You can send and receive email through your desktop
email client application (such as Microsoft Outlook or QualComm) and on
a web browser with Webmail. Your desktop email application will automatically
download your email through the Post Office Protocol (POP3) email protocol
when you login to it. Webmail uses the HyperText Transport Protocol (HTTP)
protocol, the same protocol used for the World Wide Web to display web
pages, to provide access to your domain email account through your web
browser. Webmail is server-based and allows you to store and retrieve
email directly from the server. Your domain email account user name and
password are used to login to both your desktop email application and
your Webmail.
What
makes Webmail especially useful?
The Webmail application and your email messages exist on a remote server,
not your local computer. So, you never need to worry about missing, corrupt,
or overwritten email program files.
The Webmail system is very easy to use and provides the following features:
Access requires only your domain account name and password.
Any Web-connected computer and browser can be used to access to your mail.
Your computer experiences minimal impact to its system resources.
All upgrades are automatic and seamless.
What are some of Webmail's main features?
In addition to the configuration features mentioned in the previous question, Webmail also provides the following functions:
Sending email messages to distribution lists.
Sending up to five file attachments per email message.
Automatically adding personal signatures to outgoing email messages.
Creating personal email folders to archive or categorize your messages.
An online address book.
Automatic mail forwarding
Autoreply, an automatic response to email messages.

Do
I need to open an email account to use Webmail?
No. Webmail is included with most of our UNIX shared hosting plans. All
email accounts under your domain can access email with Webmail as well
as with any standard POP3 email application, such as Microsoft Outlook,
Eudora, or Netscape Messenger.
How
do I access Webmail?
Webmail is always available on the Web.
Start your Web browser.
Type http://www.your_domain/webmail
in the address bar, then press Enter (replace your_domain
with your domain name). The Webmail Login screen appears.
Note: For Windows users, type http://webmail.your_domain/webmail
in the address bar.
For example, if your domain name is "autumndancer.com", type
http://webmail.autumndancer.com/webmail
in the address bar.
Note: For a secure login, type https://your_domain/webmail.
For Windows users, type https://webmail.your_domain/webmail
Press Enter. The Webmail Login screen appears.
Type your User ID and Password in the appropriate fields.
Press Login. The Inbox folder appears.
How
do I change my Webmail settings?
After logging into Webmail, click the Options
tab. From the Options screen, you can change your Webmail options.
Where
can I get help on how to use Webmail's many features?
Webmail contains an easy-to-use and comprehensive online help system. If
you need information on how to perform any email-related function, log
in to your Webmail account and click the Help
button.
Can
I have more than one POP account?
Yes. Contact your Webmail Administrator about setting up additional accounts.
How
much disk space do I have for my email messages?
Each email account on your domain shares the total disk space available
under your domain’s Web hosting plan. Each plan comes with generous disk
space quotas. Contact your Webmail Administrator with any questions about
disk space management.
What can I do to manage my email?
To effectively manage your email:
· Delete unwanted or old email messages from your Inbox, Sent Items, Trash, or personal folders.
· Use an email application (such as Microsoft Outlook or Eudora) to automatically download your email into your computer.
Important:
Before using email applications that download email into your computer,
see Virus information in this Help
file.
For more information regarding the relationship between email accounts and disk space, contact your Webmail Administrator.
Can
I forward all of my email messages to a different email address?
Yes. Your Website Administrator can help you with automatic mail forwarding
and with using autoresponders.
Can
I un-send an email message?
Un-sending refers to the ability to retrieve a sent email message before
the recipient reads it. Currently, Webmail does not include an un-send
feature.
If
I have trouble with Webmail, where can I go for help?
First, search the Webmail online Help file for any information related
to the problem you are experiencing.
Check the Problems? section for information regarding difficulties you might encounter with sending and receiving mail, losing your password, and other issues.
For additional information, contact your Webmail Administrator.
What
can I do if I try to delete or move email messages and attachments from
a folder (other
than from the Trash folder) and they do not get deleted or moved?
If the disk space available on the hosting account is near capacity, you
might not be able to execute a deletion or a move; the underlying system
uses temporary space at least the same size as the message or folder being
deleted or moved to complete the operation. If enough disk space is not
available, the operation fails.
Note: When you delete email messages, attachments, or entire email folders, they are moved to the Trash Folder. This feature allows you to change your mind and retrieve the files from the Trash Folder before permanently deleting them. When you delete them from the Trash folder, they are permanently deleted from the server.
To solve this deletion or move problem, you can make more space available by using your POP email client (such as Microsoft Outlook, QualComm Eudora or Netscape Messenger) to POP any messages in your Inbox down to your desktop. If you do not know how to do this or if you do not have a POP email client, your Website Administrator can provide more disk space or remove some files for you.
Note: This situation can be avoided if you get into the practice of deleting old or unwanted messages and attachments from your Sent and Trash folders on a regular basis.
Why does the message "IMAP server busy. Try again later" appear?
The system displays this message when one of the following occurs.
IMAP (Interactive Mail Access Protocol) is not running.
The database is corrupt.
The LDAP (Lightweight Directory Access Protocol) database needs to be resynchronized.
The Webmail directories are not owned by userid:client on all account types.
The Webmail databases on parked boxes are not owned by webapps:149 on parked boxes.
Contact your Webmail Administrator.
Why does the message "Internal Server error" appear when I go to http://www.<your_domain>/webmail?
Note: For Windows users, the address appears as http://webmail.<your_domain>/webmail
The Webmail system might be down or your Webmail account might have a problem. Contact your Webmail Administrator.
Can I set Webmail to auto-delete old mail from my Trash folder?
Yes. See Automatically Empty Trash in this Help file.
Why does Webmail not work when my account reaches its disk space quota?
Some free disk space must be available before Webmail can function. If sufficient disk space is not available, Webmail cannot open. Contact you Webmail Administrator.
Can I display HTML in Webmail?
Yes. Right-click in any message and select View Source to display the HTML code.
Can I import or export my Webmail address book to Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Outlook Express?
No. The Webmail Address Book data set format is incompatible with other formats.
Can I export my Webmail address book to my local computer?
No. This function is not available in Webmail.

Click Cookies. A Cookies window appears.
Click Manage Stored Cookies. A Cookie Manager window appears on the Stored Cookies page. If not, click the Stored Cookies tab.
Click Remove All Cookies.
Note: In Netscape, you can choose to remove only the Webmail cookies instead of removing all cookies. The Webmail cookies are called “domain.com cookie_check,” “domain.com session_id,” and “domain.com session_key”. Your account’s actual domain name appears instead of “domain.com”.
Locate them in the list displayed toward the top of the Stored Cookies page.
Highlight each cookie individually and click Remove Cookie.
Click OK and then close any Netscape dialog boxes that remain open.
Log in to your Webmail account. The system can now refresh cache.
What do I do when the message "Unable to Refresh Cache" appears?
Access your Webmail through http://your_domain/webmail/?refresh_cache=1.
Note: For Windows users, access your Webmail through http://webmail.your_domain/webmail/?refresh_cache=1.
How can I use Webmail to help manage my disk space?
Check the messages and attachments in your mail folders and delete un-wanted messages.
Why does Webmail take so long to start?
If your Inbox contains either a large number of email messages or numerous large messages, Webmail might take longer than normal to load.
How can I view the full headers of an email message in Webmail?
Currently, Webmail does not provide the ability to view full header information. To view full headers, use an email client such as Microsoft Outlook that allows you to download your messages to your local computer.
Why can I not use Webmail as a backup and leave email messages on the server?
You can! Simply create custom Webmail folders and move your messages into those folders.
Important: Be aware that all messages stored in custom folders and the Sent Items folder affect your account disk space. Be sure to carefully monitor your available disk space.
To attach one or more files to a new message, see Adding Attachments.
Why does Webmail show the incorrect time or a different time?
You have set the incorrect time zone in the Options section of your Webmail.
What happens if I attempt to send an email message that is over the 8MB size limit?
The size of an outgoing email message (including all attachments) should not exceed 8MB. We cannot guarantee that outbound email messages that are over the 8MB size limit will be successfully sent.
Important:
The recipient might be using a mail server with its own size limitations,
thereby increasing the possibility of failure.
Do I receive an error message if an email message I sent gets dropped?
No. Because your Webmail account does not directly detect or restrict the size of email messages, it is not possible to notify either the sender or the recipient that an email message has been dropped due to size.
